Again Motorola DROID 4 Leaked – Demo Unit Pictured In The Wild
There’s pretty much nothing we don’t already know about Motorola’s worst kept secret, the Droid 4, other than an actual release date. With that being said, the “Razr with a keyboard” is actually looking more like the Bionic from the latest leaked pics taken by John and team at TechnoBuffalo who got some hands-on with a demo unit earlier today.
The device, while not exactly a working model (more of those shells you find on display at Best Buy) does give us a better look at it, with pictures showing off every angle. The Droid 4 will most likely make an appearance at CES 2012 next month of which the entire Phandroid staff we be on hand bringing you the very latest in Android tech.

Mozilla and Google Sign New Agreement for Default Search in Firefox
“Under this multi-year agreement, Google Search will continue to be the default search provider for hundreds of millions of Firefox users around the world,” said Gary Kovacs, CEO, Mozilla.
“Mozilla has been a valuable partner to Google over the years and we look forward to continuing this great partnership in the years to come,” said Alan Eustace, Senior Vice President of Search, Google.

Want to Manually Update Your Nexus S To 4.0.3, Here’s How 17 12 2011
So maybe your like me and your impatient. Who has time to wait for an update to come to them, when you can go get it yourself. Worry not my friends, we have the download file for you. As well as the walk through. Go on, you know the suspense is killing you.
This is only for the GSM version, And the T-Mobile version. If that’s not your phone, don’t follow through with these instructions, this isn’t an update for your phone. For all the rest of you that it does cover, read on:
Grab the OTA package here Rename it to something you will remember, like update.zip, or sweet.zip, whatever works best for you. Copy it over to the internal storage on your Nexus S. Power off, then hold volume up and power to reboot to the bootloader. Using the volume key to navigate, select recovery, then use the power button to confirm When you see the warning triangle and arrow, hold the power button and tap volume up. You’ll see a menu. From the menu, select “apply update from /sdcard”, and choose the file you named from the list. Let it do its thing and update your system, radio, and other partitions. When finished, choose “reboot system now” As long as you did everything correctly your phone should reboot, and you should be enjoying that sweet goodness called Ice Cream Sandwich. Kobo to be acquired by Japanese e-commerce giant for $315 million
Kobo, purveyor of eReaders and eBook software across a variety of platforms, announced on Tuesday that it will be acquired by Japan-based Rakuten. Rakuten will purchase 100% of outstanding shares of of Kobo for $315 million in cash. Based in Toronto, Ontario, Kobo was spun off of Canadian retailer Indigo in late 2009, and the company has struggled to compete against the likes of Amazon and Barnes & Noble in the eBook space. ”We are very excited about this next step,” said Rakuten CEO Hiroshi Mikitani in a statement. ”Kobo provides one of the world’s most communal eBook reading experiences with its innovative integration of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter; while Rakuten offers Kobo unparalleled opportunities to extend its reach through some of the world’s largest regional e-commerce companies, including Buy.com in the US, Tradoria in Germany, Rakuten Brazil, Rakuten Taiwan, Lekutian in China, TARAD in Thailand, and Rakuten Belanja Online in Indonesia, and of course, Rakuten Ichiba in Japan.” Kobo’s full press release follows below.
Apple may launch ‘iPad mini’ in Q3
Apple is reportedly working on a smaller version of its popular iPad tablet that will launch in the third quarter next year. Citing sources in Apple’s parts supply chain, DigiTimes on Friday claimed that a new iPad with a 7.85-inch display will enter production at the end of the second quarter. LG Display and AU Optronics will supply the panels, according to the site’s report. DigiTimes suggests that Apple, which previously stated that a 7-inch display was too small for a tablet, will build the smaller slate to “cope with increasing market competition including the 7-inch Kindle Fire from Amazon and the launch of large-size smartphones from handset vendors.” Earlier reports from Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White suggested that Apple would launch an “iPad mini” in 2012, but that mini referred to a lower price in the high-$200 range rather than a smaller form factor.

Apple v. Samsung Saga: Australia Backs Sammy; iPhone & iPad Banned in Germany
We recently heard some scary news regarding the Apple vs. HTC lawsuits and their potential to damage Android. Fortunately, now it looks like there have been a couple major reversals for the Apple vs. "everyone" debacle, at least in regards to some of their other lawsuits.
Android scored two major legal victories this holiday season. First, the final appeal from Apple in Australia ended in favor of Samsung. Originally, Apple won a temporary injunction to ban sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia, but then an appeals court reversed that decision. Apple then appealed that decision, but were rejected on this final appeal.
The second victory for Android was a bigger one. A little known, and only mildly covered lawsuit was also pending in which Motorola counter-sued Apple, claiming copyright infringement against a Moto patent that basically covers a: "METHOD FOR PERFORMING A COUNTDOWN FUNCTION DURING A MOBILE-ORIGINATED TRANSFER FOR A PACKET RADIO SYSTEM". A ruling was handed down in the Mannheim Regional Court in Germany on this lawsuit, banning the sale of the iPhone and iPad throughout Europe! Right now this is only a preliminary injunction and is only enforceable against Ireland-based Apple subsidiary Apple Sales International. Apple must now remove the infringing functions or appeal to Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court, which is likely the route they will take. This is a fairly stunning setback for Apple, but of course will continue to develop over time.
It still remains to be seen how things will go for Android as a whole though. On December 14th, a U.S. court will finally hear HTC's appeal regarding their infringement of a couple of Apple patents. We covered it previously, but it bears repeating because the patents are so broad that if Apple wins, it could affect the entire Android ecosystem.
Here's a small add-on to the overall story. In a bit of ridiculous irony, back in September, Apple actually had the gall to accuse Motorola and Samsung of being "anti-competitive" by using patent lawsuits to stifle competition. Apple must have forgotten the time-line of events, because they were the ones who began this gigantic lawsuit fiesta, and Motorola and Samsung simply counter-sued in defense. Obviously, a big part of the problem is the broken patent system, and the ability of companies to license broad and vague patents. However, that does not absolve anyone of their responsibility to use the system fairly. Stating that "the system is broken and setup that way, so it is perfectly okay for a company to take advantage of it" is like saying it would be okay to murder someone if the law permitted it. There is such a thing as ethics, and it is up to each person, or group, to attempt to be as ethical as possible.
Regardless of the philosophical debate, Apple calling Motorola and Samsung "anti-competitive" is like that kid you played with that constantly changes the rules of the game, and then calls you a cheater when you win anyway. After a while, no one wants to play with that kid, and it almost looks like that is what Apple might be worried about. What do you think?
